Schools & student privacy
For adult educators, school decision-makers, and parents. This guide explains precautions and product-specific questions. It is not a signed school agreement, an app privacy notice, parental consent, or a certification that an app is COPPA- or FERPA-compliant. Do not send student records through this website or in an initial email.
Before using a tool with students
- Review the exact app, version, audience, privacy notice, and integrations. A showcase description or another app's notice is not enough.
- Obtain school approval and determine the lawful basis for any student information processing. Adult supervision alone does not replace required authorization.
- Use synthetic examples or the least identifying information that works. Avoid photos, full names, recordings, sensitive notes, and public displays of student ratings unless truly needed and properly authorized.
- Use a school-approved device and separate browser profile with suitable access controls. Plan how to export, retain, and delete records, including printed copies and backups.
- Before any transfer of identifiable student information to K12 Chinuch, including troubleshooting, contact contact@k12chinuch.com without attaching records to arrange the required review and safeguards.
Local storage does not mean no privacy risk
Some tools keep classroom content on the device, but loading a web app still exposes technical data to its infrastructure and any external resources. Local storage and IndexedDB are not the same as the browser's image cache. Other users of the same browser profile may see the data. A browser or operating-system backup, exported report, printout, or screen share creates a separate copy.
Use app-specific deletion controls where available. To remove remaining browser records, clear site data for the exact app origin after preserving any authorized records you need. In the reviewed tools deployment, clearing tools.k12chinuch.com may remove information for Timers, Selectors, and Activity Creator together. Clearing site data does not delete exported files or records held by a provider or another person.
What COPPA and FERPA mean here
COPPA: Online services directed to children under 13, and other services with actual knowledge of covered collection from under-13 children, can have duties including clear notices, verifiable parental consent unless a narrow exception applies, access and deletion rights, security, and limited retention. Some school authorization is recognized in limited educational circumstances; it is not permission for unrelated commercial uses and cannot simply be assumed from a teacher's visit.
FERPA: FERPA generally applies to educational institutions receiving funds under programs administered by the U.S. Department of Education. A vendor receiving education records under the school-official exception must satisfy its conditions, including the school's direct control over use and maintenance and restrictions on use and redisclosure. A privacy policy alone does not create that relationship. A school may need an appropriate written agreement and its own notices and authorization process.
We do not use student information for sale, targeted advertising, unrelated profiling, or AI training. These commitments do not replace app-specific assessment of other legal requirements. School and operator responsibilities both matter.
Review outputs and use tools appropriately
Review generated translations, assessments, reports, grouping decisions, and calendar calculations before relying on them. No learning outcome, grading accuracy, religious ruling, or suitability for a particular student is guaranteed. Educational tools do not replace professional judgment or a qualified religious authority; regulation resources are not medical advice, individualized occupational therapy, diagnosis, or treatment.
Product-specific review points
The following are review points drawn from product descriptions, owner information, and limited public-page checks on November 3, 2026, not a complete inventory of every app's processing. App behavior can change. An unavailable launch link does not establish that a product has launched.
K12 ClassScanner
Names, student codes, optional photos, assignments, points, and reward histories can identify students. Treat barcodes and QR codes as identifiers, not anonymous data or secure authentication. Limit exposure on badges, reports, leaderboards, and shared devices. Classroom points and rewards should not be assumed to provide banking, payment processing, or real-money custody.
Spinners & Selectors
Rosters, skill ratings, grouping rules, and saved views can be education records. Avoid projecting private ratings or sensitive separation rules. The tools share browser storage under tools.k12chinuch.com.
Classroom Timers
Review any image, audio, playlist, recording, and cue features before use. A recording containing a child's voice is personal information, not merely a timer setting. Do not use timers for safety-critical tasks.
Activity Creator
Uploaded images, customized worksheets, entered names, and any saved learning responses need review. Printing or exporting creates copies outside the app. Use non-identifying classroom materials where possible.
K12 Calendar Creator
Schedules, tasks, location choices, and integrations need separate review. At our most recent review, the public page included Sign in functionality and loaded Google Fonts; optional authentication and calendar features must not be assumed to be local-only. Browser site-data deletion does not delete records from a connected account. Verify religious dates and times independently.
Lesson Planner & File Filer
Lessons, notes, file paths, attachments, exports, and backups may contain student information. The desktop implementation is distinct from browser storage. Secure local databases and files, and review the contents before sharing a lesson or support archive.
Adaptive Testing Suite
Responses, scores, progress, and differentiated homework can be identifiable education records. Determine who enters responses, whether any audio is captured, who can view results, and how the school can access and delete them. Do not treat generated assessments as diagnoses or sole grounds for consequential decisions.
Bereishis Builders
Children may interact directly with learning questions. Review player names, answers, scores, saved progress, sounds, and any online dependencies for the actual distributed build, including offline versions.
Color-Coded Chumash
Review whether reading activity, annotations, custom translations, or progress is saved or transmitted. Displaying religious text does not by itself establish the beliefs of an individual user; avoid unnecessary inferences about students.
Browserless Browser
Embedded websites can collect information independently. Hiding browser controls is not a privacy boundary, content filter, or proof that tracking and navigation are blocked. Review destinations and device-level controls.
K12 Report Builder
Word or Excel imports, charts, and exported reports can contain highly identifying performance information. A "no AI" feature description does not establish local-only processing, secure storage, or permission to upload records.
Classroom OT Regulation Tools & Resources
Prefer use without entering diagnoses, disability information, health notes, or student identities. Activities require appropriate adult supervision and professional judgment; resources are not medical care or individualized therapy.
Penny Bank
This app is not yet listed in the showcase collection. Before use, verify student identifiers, balances, transaction histories, persistence, and whether values are simulated or represent actual funds. Do not assume it is a regulated bank, a payment service, or suitable for custody of money.
Parent and school requests
For a school's records, contact the school first. For information the operator actually holds, email contact@k12chinuch.com with a non-sensitive description of the app and request. We may need to verify authority. Do not include an assessment or student roster in your initial request. We cannot remotely retrieve or erase records that exist only on a device you control.
